What is a latex mattress?

A latex mattress is naturally cooling bed delivers high levels of bounce and responsiveness. Latex mattresses are usually made up of several layers of latex foam, and latex hybrid mattresses are made using a combination of layers of latex foam and springs to supply both deep pressure relief and premium support.

Latex mattresses provide a plush comfort layer that is manufactured from rubber plants. Latex mattresses also boast a natural elasticity which allows them to spring back into their original shape as you move and maximises the comfort-factor.

They’re also ideal for anyone who struggles to sleep at night due to allergies. This is thanks to the natural hypoallergenic qualities of latex mattresses.

Which size latex mattress do I need?

When the time comes to choose your ideal size of latex mattress, our catalogue will cater to your needs. We have latex mattresses in all sizes including single latex mattresses, small double latex mattresses, double latex mattresses, king size latex mattresses and even super king latex mattresses.

If you are considering purchasing a new divan base or bed frame to go with your new latex mattress, check out our bed and mattress buying guide for a little advice on what size might be the right fit for your needs.

For now, we’ll leave you with an overview of the different mattress sizes and who they are most appropriate for:

Single latex mattresses. Single mattresses are perfectly designed to sleep one adult comfortably. They’re also a popular choice for children and guest bedrooms. A single latex mattress measures 90cm x 190cm (or 3ft x 6ft3”).

Small double latex mattresses. A small double mattress (or queen size, if you prefer) measures 120cm x 190cm (or 4ft x 6ft3”). This means that a small double latex mattress will offer adults and teens sleeping along plenty of space to spread out during the night. But queen latex mattresses can also provide a cosy night’s sleep for two adults. Latex mattresses in queen size are a great choice for homes with compact master bedrooms.

Double latex mattresses. Double mattresses are one of the most popular sizes of mattresses thanks to them being able to sleep two adults comfortably on a regular basis. The measurements of a double latex mattress are 135cm wide x 190cm long (or 4ft6” x 6ft3”).

King size latex mattresses. King size mattresses are becoming more and more popular thanks to the rise of sleep awareness. A king size latex mattress provides an additional 15cm of width and 10cm of length when compared to standard double mattresses offering two sleepers enough space to spread out as they sleep. Latex mattresses in king size measure 150cm x 200cm (or 5ft x 6ft6”) and could be a great fit for most sleep scenarios.

Super king latex mattresses. Last but not least, we have the biggest UK mattress size to consider. Super king mattresses are 180cm wide x 200cm long (or 6ft x 6ft6”) offering a generous amount of room for two sleepers to stretch out or move around as they please. And with a super king latex mattress, you won’t need to worry about motion transfer affecting your sleep quality either.

How long does a latex mattress last?

Latex mattresses are hard to beat when it comes to longevity. Natural latex is extremely durable and should last you 15 to 20 years (possibly even longer) if properly cared for. So, if want a mattress that offers value for money and will last for years to come, a latex mattress is definitely one to consider.

Which latex mattress firmnesses are available?

At Bensons, we want to ensure that our mattresses appeal to the needs and wants of all our customers. With that in mind, all of our mattress types come in a range of firmness ratings.

A soft latex mattress is ideal for lightweight side-sleepers – including the kids! Soft mattresses are perfect for children as they give them plenty of sleep support and loads of comfort. Plus, the added benefit of latex mattresses being hypoallergenic will appeal to parents of children with allergies (unless they’re allergic to latex that is!) and skin conditions such as eczema.

Medium latex mattresses are great for most adult side-sleepers. A medium mattress will give you enough resistance to keep you properly supported during the night. It should also be soft enough to cushion those key pressure points such as your hips and shoulders too.

For back and front-sleepers, a firm latex mattress is generally a great choice. Firm mattresses deliver a firmer level of support to help promote proper spinal alignment during the night. In fact, some taller or heavier side sleepers could find that the additional support provided by a firm mattress is a better fit for them too.

And for those sleepers that love a really firm mattress; people hoping to find the best mattress for a bad back; or front or back sleepers with heavier builds; an extra firm latex mattress might be an ideal choice.
