And all of this comes at a very competitive price point too.

The updated Naturals mattress Collection uses a blend of recycled, natural and organic materials. Each mattress is handmade to order in our Kitemark approved factory in the UK too. Scroll on to learn more about the product updates and why one of the mattresses in this collection might just be the sleep solution you’ve been waiting for.

Slumberland Naturals Mattresses: What’s Changed?

Those of you who are familiar with our Slumberland Naturals mattress range might be wondering what’s changed. So, without further ado, here just a few examples of the key updates we’ve made to their design and makeup:

  • More springs. We’ve increased the number of springs included in each and every one of our natural mattress collection.
  • We’ve upgraded the fillings. In a bid to give you better value for money when buying a mattress and improving the comfort levels at the same time, we’ve upgraded the fillings used within our mattress range.
  • The collection now appeals to more people. The Naturals mattresses are now suited to a much wider scope of customers and sleep needs thanks to the updated fillings. For example, we’ve added wool to some of the mattresses to ensure that the mattresses are suited to every season. We’ve also added latex to some of the models to enhance the pressure relieving qualities of the mattresses.

There are a number of other tweaks and changes we’ve made to their makeup, but those listed above are the main takeaways. Discover more about the new and improved Naturals mattress collection below.

What are Slumberland Naturals Mattress Fibres Made From?

PlThe slumberland Plant-based mattress on a grey divan bed in a modern minimalist bedroom

There are a number of carefully curated materials that make up the filling of our newly improved Slumberland Naturals collection.

By working very closely with our suppliers in Cumbria, we developed a special blend of natural fibres. The materials used to create the fibres used while creating these mattress types include organic cotton, organic flax, bamboo and Tencel.

Here’s a little more info about each of the different materials used within the organic fibres used in our mattresses.

1. Organic cotton

Cotton fibres derived from cotton shrubs can be spun into a yarn or thread. These are then used to make soft, breathable and durable textiles – just about the perfect choice for the Slumberland Naturals mattress collection. We’ve also been very specific while sourcing our cotton. The one used in this particular mattress range is GOTS-approved (That’s Global Organic Textile Standard). This basically translates to it meeting the worldwide organic textile processing standard which extends to the ecological and social criteria demands throughout the entirety of the supply chain.

2. Organic flax

Flax is also known as linseed. It is a flowering plant from which flax fibres can be extracted from the stem and spun to produce textiles. Flax is actually widely believed to be stronger than cotton. It’s also anti-bacterial, breathable and hypoallergenic making it a great choice for allergy sufferers.

What’s more, flax is also a natural insulator and capable of releasing excess humidity. This makes it an ideal material when it comes to temperature regulating too!Our organic flax is also GOTS-approved.

3. Bamboo

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants in the world. This makes it extremely renewable as it’s super-quick to replenish crops. Furthermore, bamboo is known to be both breathable and hypoallergenic. It’s even renowned for its temperature regulating capabilities and its absorbency. As such, it can absorb moisture from your skin while you sleep to help leave you feeling dry and comfortable during the night.

4. Tencel

Tencel™ fibres are made from sustainably sourced natural raw wood materials. These are chipped and pulped, then weaved, to create textiles. Tencel production processes are refined to minimise their environmental impacts too. It’s created through a process that reuses all of the water and organic solvents lending to its closed loop production.

Tencel is gentle on skin, and also has efficient moisture management. It’s actually 50% more absorbent than cotton which contributes to its breathability and helps to reduce the build-up of bacteria in your mattress.

What Other Materials are Used in this Mattress Collection?

In the makeup of this mattress you’ll find an amalgamation of any of the following materials:

  • Wool. Wool is one of the most widely used natural fibres. It’s got great temperature regulating and anti-allergenic properties. It’s also a sustainable, renewable and biodegradable material too. And all this whilst being naturally flame resistant. We’ve added a durable ‘all seasons’ wool layer to our Naturals mattresses to help keep you warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
  • Latex. Latex is a popular material when it comes to mattress making thanks to its elasticity and durability. These features mean that latex is a material that is able to deliver excellent pressure relieving resilient support. It adapts to your body’s unique contours and helps to promote optimum spinal alignment.
  • Truecomfort. Our specially developed truecomfort quilted sleep surface is derived from truecomfort fibres to help the environment and provide great support and comfort while you’re dreaming big. Truecomfort fibres are 75% recycled PET plastic in their makeup.

Not all of the mattresses contain all of the materials mentioned here and other materials also feature in the makeup. Check the individual mattress product descriptions to see which ones are included in your preferred choice.

What About the Pocket Springs?

The Ultimate wool mattress on a light grey divan bed base set in a bedroom against a dark grey feature wall

In the Slumberland Naturals mattress range, we used a combination of micro pocket spring, full-height pocket springs, and dynamic perimeter edge springs.

Our full-height mattress springs are produced right here in the UK and they contain around 15 - 20% recycled steel content. Each of the full height pocket springs are wrapped in their very own flexible, breathable fabric pocket. Why? Well, this helps to minimise motion transfer and thus the likelihood of your bed sharing partner disturbing your sleep.

Then there’s the dynamic edge springs. These make up the outer two rows of springs within the mattress are enhanced to extend the comfort life of the Naturals collection. This added edge support and durability reduces roll off - that’s the likelihood that you’ll roll off your mattress and it’s supporting bed frame and land on the floor with a bump in the night – and optimises the sleep surface right to the edge of the mattress.

Finally, we come to those micro pocket springs. These are handy as they can react perfectly to the unique contours of your body. Having an increased responsiveness in your support system can enhance comfort and durability while improving air circulation within your mattress.

What Comfort Ratings are Available?

At Bensons, we understand that when it comes to comfort, there isn’t a one-size fits all solution. And so, each of these mattresses are available in either two or three comfort ratings so that you can find your ideal fit.

The Plant-Based Luxe mattress is the only member of the Naturals collection that is available in three different comfort ratings. These are: medium, firm, and extra-firm.

The Wool Premium mattress is available in two firmness ratings: medium and firm.

The Wool Ultimate mattress is also available in two firmness ratings: medium and firm.

Medium mattresses are generally suited to those who prefer to sleep on their side, while firm mattresses are a great choice for front (or tummy) and back sleepers. If you want to learn how to choose a mattress based on your preferred sleep position, we’ve got a blog post dedicated to it.

Once in a while, you’ll also come across someone who does prefer extra-firm too. And at Bensons for Beds, we aim to cater for every sleep preference.
