Iconic Bedrooms from Film and Television and How to Recreate Them
Whether it’s for the plot, the characters, the cinematography, or of course, the bedrooms, we’ve all fallen in love with certain films or television programmes over the years. But here at Bensons for Beds, we have a special love for set designs – especially the bedrooms from film and television!
Why? Well, the bedrooms we see on screen can be a source of inspiration for our own homes. A great storytelling element too, carefully curated bedrooms give us insight into our favourite characters, helping us understand who they are and what they’re about.
With all this in mind, we decided to explore some of the most iconic bedrooms from the world of film and television. From Mean Girls to Home Alone. We're also giving you some tips on how to recreate a few of your favourites.
Regina George’s bedroom in Mean Girls (2004)
Which 16-year-old girl makes their parents trade bedrooms with them – and gets away it? Regina George, that’s who.
And you’d expect nothing less than a pink palace for North Shore’s Queen Bee. Inside Regina’s giant room, a four-poster bed sits majestically on a raised platform, shielded by velour curtains. Above the headboard, a shiny ‘Princess’ sign sparkles – reminding her fellow plastics of her social standing – while various shades of pink circle all around. There’s French doors too, leading to a Juliet balcony and a stunning view most adults could only dream of.
Surprisingly, the set designer for this noughties teen classic has admitted to “being really careful” when bringing Regina’s over-the-top bedroom to life as budget was limited. Who knew?! (1)

Without a doubt, Regina George would love the princess perfection of the Orianna Upholstered Ottoman Bed Frame in beautiful blush pink. Not only does this bed frame give off luxurious royal vibes, but it's the perfect place to store all those fabulous accessories.

Frenchy’s bedroom in Grease (1978)
Frenchy’s bedroom reveals just how committed she is to the Pink Ladies’ lifestyle.
Above the bed, photos of Elvis and other teen heartthrobs of the era line the pink walls. There’s a Rydell High flag too, showing off Frenchy’s school spirit, while soft toys and souvenirs circle all around. Meanwhile, a standing hair dryer and Hollywood mirror allows Frenchy to practise her beauty skills on her fellow Pink Ladies.
All in all, Frenchy’s bedroom is the perfect place to talk about boys, do makeovers and sing about Sandra-Dee to their heart’s content.
Fun fact: To mark the movie’s 40th anniversary in 2018, Didi Conn returned to Frenchy’s bedroom for a photoshoot.(2)

Jay Gatsby’s bedroom in The Great Gatsby (2013)
If you’re looking for luxury bedroom ideas for your own home, look no further than Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby. The 2013 adaption of this literary classic, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is Art Deco heaven. Think richly polished hardwoods, bold geometric shapes and decadent detail aplenty. Such is the attention to detail; it was awarded an Oscar for Best Production Design at the 86th Academy Awards in 2014 (3), as well as Best Costume Design. What’s your favourite room in Jay Gatsby’s mansion?

Kevin McCallister’s parents’ bedroom in Home Alone (1990)
Watching Home Alone as an adult, you can’t help but wonder what the McCallisters did to afford a swanky set-up. Their picture-perfect mansion features an abundance of rooms, including an ornately decorated master bedroom with four-poster bed. It’s here where Kevin is left to fend for himself, using his Mum and Dad’s room to watch TV in bed and eat whatever he wants. And who can blame him – we'd do the same!
Fun fact: to promote a stronger Christmas feel, red and green colours feature throughout the film. Look closely and you’ll notice these colours in almost every scene. This includes everything from Kevin’s clothing to the furniture and food containers.(4)

Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)
Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s has taken its place in history as a true cultural classic. From the little black dress to the oh-so-sexy cigarette holder, Audrey’s character, Holly, continues to inspire millions of glamour-loving women the world over. But it’s not just her style that we love – her bohemian bedroom is also a wonderful thing to behold. While Holly’s apartment feels rather sparse, her bedroom is the one place with some home comforts. See the wrought iron bed frame and glamorous dressing table packed with products!
Fun fact: Did you know the interior of Holly’s New York City apartment was filmed on set in Hollywood? That’s right, only the exterior of Holly’s house is real.(5)

Emulate the look with the help of a metal bed. The Harvard metal bed frame is a tastefully modern take on a Victorian-style metal bed. This classical design is perfectly in keeping with the elegance of Holly Golightly's tastes.
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air (1990)
We all remember the theme tune to this iconic TV classic, but do you remember the set design? Think botanical bedsheets and garish colours galore. And while it might all look a bit dated now, this was bang-on-trend in the early 90s. Just take Will Smith’s cousin's bedroom as an example – so much pink!
Fun Fact: Despite being called the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, none of it was filmed there. The interior scenes were filmed on a soundstage in Los Angeles and the mansion featured in the opening credits is in Brentwood, just outside of Bel Air! (6)

Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
What looks like a typical teenager’s bedroom is actually so much more.
In fact, this film is so iconic it’s been preserved in the United States Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”(7)
It’s clear to see why – Ferris’ cleverly curated bedroom is like a 1980s pop-culture museum. Posters of synth-pop bands line the walls, while a collection of expensive-looking electronics remind us of a pre-digital era. There’s a stereo, a synthesiser and an IBM computer too – which Ferris Bueller uses to hack into his school’s attendance records. Very impressive for 1986!
